Yes, does seem like slightly approaches based upon region and country, I just had a quick look (may not be 100% accurate) but thought the below was interesting.

Electric Meter Calibration Practices by Country

    Austria
    • Calibration Period: 4 to 20 years, with a 5-year extension possible through statistical examination.
    • Structured system ensures consistent accuracy across different meter types.
    Germany
    • Governed by the Measurement and Verification Act (MessEG) and Measurement and Verification Ordinance (MessEV).
    • New meters comply with the European Measuring Instruments Directive (MID).
    • Calibration intervals can be extended by 5 years through a random sample procedure.
    United Kingdom
    • Meters are factory-calibrated and generally not recalibrated unless their accuracy is in question.
    • Relies on specific codes of practice, such as for accuracy in settlement purposes.
    • A less structured approach compared to Austria and Germany.
    United States
    • No nationwide standard; calibration frequency varies by state, utility company, and meter type.
    • Common intervals range from 5 to 10 years, based on manufacturer recommendations or local regulations.
    • A decentralized, flexible system.

This comparison highlights the diverse approaches to electric meter calibration across countries. Austria and Germany have more structured systems, while the UK and US offer greater flexibility.

Interesting to see the very different ways how such things are handled in other countries.

Interesting, does seem like ASUS have re-released (updated) the older firmware from February as it has a very slight file size change and different checksum.

Also seems like all previous releases are now not available for download, maybe a bug in previous releases also.

Got to love those ASUS guys and girls for their CC

Interesting i checked the asus site to see if there was any new firmware for the bt10. There was one listed for 28/04 but it was still the old firmware from a few months back. I wonder why the date updated and if they actually have a new one on the way.

I believe the Gas box is called a ‘Semi-Concealed LPG Meter Box’ and will be suitable for the smaller Smart Meters, physically.

10 Years is such a long period of time.

In the UK, electricity meters are regulated to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards, but the calibration requirements differ from Austria. Meters used for billing purposes must meet specific accuracy and performance criteria under the Electricity Act 1989 and related regulations. However, there isn’t a fixed five-year calibration cycle like in Austria. Instead, meters are tested and certified for accuracy before installation, and independent testing can be requested if there are concerns about meter readings.

Gas meters are regulated under the Gas Act 1986 and related legislation. They must meet specific accuracy and performance standards before being approved for use. Unlike Austria’s fixed calibration cycle, the UK employs a system called In-Service Testing (IST). This is a national sampling scheme where meters are periodically tested to ensure they remain accurate throughout their lifespan.

Ideally in direct sunlight is best or when the sun shines on the pathway for the longest period of time in a day, this is more important in winter when daylight is less.

We have a few in our garden for our dog and have set it so it is low (low light) and only activates full beam when the dog sets of the motion sensor when in the garden, this set-up would work for yourself also I believe.

As @Grisu said, temperature has no effect, it is sunlight and angle of solar cells.

Temperature is irrelevant, only the angle of sun light to the solar cells counts.

Here (in Austria) meters (electricity and) have to be calibrated every 5 years.
So they have to be changed anyway within its battery life.

Isn’t calibration needed in UK the same way?

Yes, plus side is  bills are accurate and with the Ivie app, I can see usage and also on the Ivie bud if I decide to get it.  Downside is potentially changing every approx. 10 years as that’s estimated how long the batter in it will last and although the battery I believe can be replaced, from what I’ve read most companies just replace the smart meter with another one (not sure that’s overly environmentally friendly) but I guess depends do the simply scrap/recycle the old one or take it away, fit a new battery and then re-issue to someone else? I’d imagine they wouldn’t re-issue immediately as would take some time for suppliers etc to update systems to reflect this one not in use at the address etc and ensure enough time goes by where no issues can be raised regarding that meter? I’ve seen some people on forums complaining about meter readings going back year or never received a bill etc.

I’m tempted but at same time – its no bother as is, I take a reading as and when and its reasonably accurate tbh and if my supplier over estimated and I submit a lower reading that they estimated previously, they have adjusted it, with no questions etc so its not causing me any real issues, would just be nice to have.  There is also lot of people who don’t want smart meters so can never please anyone but I guess would make sense to get it done at some point, I’d just like to get the meter I’d prefer over them fitting anything but as mine is in one of those semi concealed outside boxes (see pic below, probably not exactly that one but its similar to that as I can only see the top, rest is in ground so cant’ say what it looks like overall), I believe some suppliers advise it wont fit etc but it already houses as traditional size non-smart gas meter so I believe it would fit? Probably just some small pipe adjustment needed maybe but likely the same for the small white one too as doubt existing pipes will fit the location of the white ones.

Might even make your property more  marketable if you ever decide to sell the property, if both Electric and Gas are Smart Meters etc.

Always pro’s and con’s with this sort of change.

We last year had a new Gas Smart Meter, the GS-60B the second generation SMETS2 compliant gas meter. Install only took an hour and well worth the inconvenience. (work from home) that day and you can still take manual readings.

Note: Owner or somebody over the age of 18 years is required (I believe) to be present when Gas Meter engineer visits, to ensure gas flow to boiler is correct and run a few safety checks after work has been completed etc.

I been thinking about it for a while, thing is I prefer the look for the uniflo gas meters (which look more like the traditional gas meter as shown below) as opposed to the small white ones. I’m not sure if they will fit them or not as I suspect OFTM uses a 3rd party installer and think most are installing the small er white ones which I’m not overly keen on tbh. Keep thinking about changing it on and off but also means I got to take a day off to get it done plus if I do, the batteries only last approx. 10 years and then it will need replacing etc.. could be more of a headache? but on plus side I’d get accurate bills (in theory). For me my gas meter is at front of house so if anyone needs to come read it they can as I don’t need to be home, unlike elec meter is inside but that’s smart so no real need for anyone to come look at it.

Good point, if no Gas Smart Meter then does seem not as beneficial for Ivie Bud.

Are you looking to ask your energy supplier to upgrade your Gas meter to a Smart meter ?

Yes, I’m considering the IHD as my one stopped working correctly in that it was always in the red, even with nothing on and items in standby etc so i turned it off, left it a while and now when you power it on, it doesn’t boot up. So might consider getting it but atm still waiting for energy data to come to app as still no data so far. As only got elec smart meter, wondering how beneficial it would be as only shows elec, no gas atm.
