DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name System) is a service that allows network clients to connect to the wireless router, even with a dynamic public IP address, through its registered domain name. The wireless router is embedded with the ASUS DDNS service and other DDNS services https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1011725/ I have not heard any negatives with regards to the latest firmware for the DSL-AX82U, so I would upgrade just to see how it looks and feels
The App uses DDNS but I seem to remember back in the day this enabled something which allowed Admin access from internet (I will have a look at my old notes) and a few ASUS routers got hacked
