May 5, 2021 at 6:27 pm #13121Just checked it and it says its running that firmware version you posted so should be all good :) I noticed build date was 2019 but time said 2000 but no way to change the time, Ii presume this will auto update once I connect to DSL line, wont be able to do that atm as internet in use so maybe tomorrow evening or Friday.
Thanks for info!

May 6, 2021 at 10:11 pm #13144Hi all,
So I’ve now finally got the Draytek Vigor 130 connected up and the ASUS router connected up. As mentioned, nothing needed doing to the Vigor 130, that just work out of the box (firmware was latest also). I can access modem via 192.168.2.1 now, on the dashboard page it shows current time as 2000 …….. how can i change this to be the current date/time? i thought it would pick it up when it connected but nothing so far.
I think maybe i missed the details of the IP address as I thought the router was on 192.168.1.1 but nope, then router.asus.com didn’t work so I ended up setting up the router via the mobile app, that went fine no issues but PC wasn’t connecting via LAN, i could access other lan devices i.e. network switch and then I saw on my phone the default IP seems to be 192.168.50.1 so I set my IP to a static IP in range, and then access router and make subsequent changes.
I’ve now setup a New SSID for use and used the old SSID for my IoT devices (easier than re-setting them all and setting them all up from scratch. My plan is, as they fail or need replacing, i’ll setup another WIFI specifically for them with a different name.
My router is now flashing a yellow exclamation sign saying firmware update available but I’m going to leave it for now and see how it goes before making any further changes.
Did a quick speed test and is about the same as BT box, i was hoping speed might improve a little but no worries, will need to see how modem fairs now and see if it drops etc.
I’m hoping better battery life as mobile devices will use WIFI 6 which is meant to use less battery so will see.
Many thanks for all the info and advice, much appreciated.
IF all ok by tomorrow, I might update the firmware then, will it keep my settings or set it back to default?
I’ve also left my BT router in place just incase major issue and I can revert back to how it was until more time to look at it.
Also, if anyone is interested, I currently have 23 devices connected (mix of lan & WIFI6/AC I suspect 2.4) and memory usage is 45% (567mb free out of 1GB) so not too bad, i’ve not setup or enabled anything other than adding a Guest WIFI network to it, everything else is out the box. The router is running 3.0.0.4.386_41535. Not sure what the current firmware version is, to determine how old this one is, but I’m hoping only 1 version behind but will check tomorrow as getting late now and been up since before 6am to go to work :(
Thanks
Kev

May 7, 2021 at 5:33 am #13148May 7, 2021 at 11:10 am #13159Thanks both, yes – so far, modem says: system uptime almost 14hrs so far. IS that how long the modem has been connected or just how long it has been on and it may well of dropped and re-connected?
Just about to look at the firmware and see how old my existing one is and then maybe download it and see how it goes.
Unfortunately, I’ll how to power off the modem later tonight as I need to move the power sockets about as some of the cables are a bit close to other power plugs so going to move them around a bit so unfortunately means i need to move the modem one, which i was hoping to avoid to save it dropping and re-connecting again but it will only be off for about 1 minute max. It’s all to do with the awkward shape of the power cables, some of them have a big square/oblong power, not just the standard kettle lead type and unfortunately this prevents me using some of the sockets I have due to them blocking me plugging other cables in so going to try move them around to make it easier.
Plus I’m going to finally label them all so I know what plug goes to what as bit of a mind field atm with lots of cables as I’ve got them all in the same place as my network switch, bt socket, nas box etc… cables galore :)
Also want to see if any known issues with newer firmware first to ensure all is ok and yes, will take a look at how I backup existing config.
FYI – Memory usage is still 45% and I’ve only added a port forwarding rule since yesterday and also named some of the devices so i can tell what they are, just got 1 left to track down as not easily identifiable atm. I think i know what it is but its connected wirelessly to a AP which is wired back to switch so its showing as wired but it’s actually not :)

May 7, 2021 at 11:30 am #13160Just looking at the backup option, there is a tick box to transfer asus ddns name, what is this for? Is this Asus’s version of dyndns for example? If i register, I could access the router via a dyndns/asus ddns link externally?
I enabled the option to access router remotely via the phone app so do I effectively have this setup and should tick the box?
Thanks

May 7, 2021 at 11:46 am #13161Hi all,
So just looking around, went to WAN and DDNS to see what it says and it came up almost immediately after clicking DDNS saying you have successfully registered DDNS…. and upon checking it was some very long random numbers/letters etc… so i’ve now turned DDNS off, How do i unregister it?
I also noticed on my mobile app now (on 4G, not on WIFI etc) it shows status DDNS ? Before it showed the Ip address, how do i get that back? Wish I’d backed up prior to going into DDNS now….
oh and apps constantly seems to ask me to re-sign in again…. never did that before… but i was using on wifi before so maybe that’s why?
Thanks

May 7, 2021 at 11:47 am #13162ah so when on WIFI, it shows IP, when not on WIFI it shows DDNS…. but I’ve turned off DDNS so does the app use a different DDNS?
Confused here..
Thanks

May 7, 2021 at 12:08 pm #13163DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name System) is a service that allows network clients to connect to the wireless router, even with a dynamic public IP address, through its registered domain name. The wireless router is embedded with the ASUS DDNS service and other DDNS services

I have not heard any negatives with regards to the latest firmware for the DSL-AX82U, so I would upgrade just to see how it looks and feels

The App uses DDNS but I seem to remember back in the day this enabled something which allowed Admin access from internet (I will have a look at my old notes) and a few ASUS routers got hacked

May 7, 2021 at 12:17 pm #13165Correct, it at least has been very buggy and some got hacked.
And to use Asus-DDNS you have to allow them to use your data, it comes budled with some other ‘features’ like AI-protection.

May 7, 2021 at 1:28 pm #13167Hi,
ok so i’ve just checked my router and typed in my WAN IP from my desktop on LAN – Blank page saying site cannot be reached. If i try from my mobile phone on 4G (wifi off) it says this page isn’t working, <ip addres> didn’t send any data back.
I’ve turned off DDNS (router webpage has DDNS GO on it).
And app still works when i’m on 4G (no WIFI)… is this a improvement in the app or should I basically revoke all under the Privacy tab and not use the app at all? not sure what maybe opened up and not… Don’t want security issues for sure.. i thought the app was a secure thing..
