Hi,

I have FTTP and also have a phone line.  According to the BT Chat, when i move to digital voice, i will *still* need to pay the line rental even though it all goes over my internet connection at that point.  They said it was due to the fact i still have a cable to my property and that is leased from OpenReach..  Seems a bit odd as at the moment – technically I have 2 cables – the phone line and then Fibre line. It seems to me BT still want to the line rental and effectively they add that into the total cost…. so on a new package if you say “no phone, just broadband” the cost comes down hardly at all – £5 tops… considering line rental is approx. £19.99 a month, I’d be expecting a £30 package – line rental of £19.99 to be £10.01 a month but nope, they want £30 regardless…. Hence why I’m considering potentially moving if a local provider is reliable, has good reviews etc as I don’t want to have issues of it keep going down or not being able to access stuff when not at home etc, not ideal.  BT may want more money but I cannot fault the reliability and uptime – its been rock solid.  My power goes out briefly more than my internet goes down, I doubt it has gone down at all since I’ve had it.  Only time *maybe* recently when i couldn’t’ access anything at all BUT as soon as I got home and bounced the router, it will came back up so I think maybe the router hung but as I had to reboot it, I have no logs to advise what happened.  I’ve had the router i guess a year or so now? the RT-AX86S, its been no issue at all and comes back on when power has gone out in bad weather etc so can’t fault it at all.  Its been ok since I powered it off and back on so that was about a week or so ago now so I’m waiting to see how that goes.

Still considering the 3G dongle option but if the router is locking up then I doubt 3G dongle will help as its prob not the internet going down but worst case might need to see if still in warranty or worst case but something else which I’d sooner avoid.

Was going to update the firmware but now waiting to see how it goes for a bit before I do that. If it goes down again, I’ll prob bite the bullet and update it and then see, it just takes about 2hrs for everything to re-connect.
