AVM Fritz!box – End-of-Life (EoL) Policy for their Devices – ( AVM Fritz!box Β –Β product support and product development regime)
If you have ever wondered how exactly AVM handle their End-of-Life (EoL) for there range of devices, hopefully the below quick guidance will assist.
βI must say, this was a little tricky to find clarity around AVMβs End-of-Life policies and understand what exactly that means.β
——
AVM products for their support and maintenance responsibilities fall under three categories, – End of Maintenance (EOM), Β End of Support (EOS) Β and Manufacturer’s Guarantee
End of Maintenance (EOM)
End of MaintenanceΒ determines when the manufacturer will stop providing updates and patches.Β The Fritzbox 7360, for example, has not been supplied with new firmware since 01/01/2019
End of Support (EOS)
The EOS, on the other hand, indicates when AVM support for a specific device ends, i.e. when you will no longer receive help fromΒ phone-Support or email can be expected.Β The time had come for the Fritzbox 7360 on December 31, 2019.
Manufacturer’s Guarantee
The manufacturer’s guarantee that comes withΒ AVM products is usually five years, regardless of whether the end of maintenance or end of support has been reached.Β If your device shows a defect covered by the guarantee within this period, AVM must continue to take remedial action.

August 30, 2020 at 8:37 am #9408But even EoS wont unconditionally mean that never ever maintenance updates will be released!
Here an example from their previous flagship router (you have to translate): https://www.mlo-networks.de/1354/fritzbox-7390-update-trotz-support-ende/
FRITZ!Box 7390 introduced 2009: EoM 1.7.2017, original EoS 1.9.2018, Maintenance-Update 22.10.2018
Later EoS has been postponed to 01.02.2019 (10 years after start) due to the update beyond original EoS.
Anyway severe security updates may be published after EoM and even after EoS.
But what can be seen is the fact, that flagship and long time sold routers will get much longer support (upto 10 years) than other rare models which may end in even less than 5 years.

August 30, 2020 at 9:21 am #9413Thanks for that and good to know that some AVM Fritz!Box get longer End of Maintenance support than is originally stated , my Fritz!Box 3490 has been been firmwareΒ supported for 6 years and is still working well .
But good to always understand when EoM is when you are thinking of purchasing a new or used AVM Fritz!Box

January 14, 2021 at 3:30 pm #11405They changed format of EoL list showing latest official firmware now, but there are no dates anymore.
Previous EoM might be interpreted as ‘personal support’ and EoS as ‘knowledge database’.
Right now the english version still uses old format, but it is supposed to be changed sometimes in future too.

Older devices are shown below with expand button on ‘Weitere Modelle’.
