I have been investigating why HTTP downloads cause high cpu usage on the bt10 where as https doesn’t – noticed in particular on microsoft store downloads which are http and cause max cpu usage on one core as the traffic isn’t being accelerated.
Long story short I found this firewall rule
iptables -t mangle -D PREROUTING -i br0 -p tcp -m tcp –dport 80 -j SKIPLOG
This stops HTTP traffic from being learned by the flow cache so it’s all processed by CPU.
If I delete this, it all works as expected. HTTP downloads go full speed and back down to negligible CPU usage. The issue is this gets put back in with every reboot or firewall restart.
I have submitted some feedback via the form on the asus portal. @UK Sentinel – would it be possible please to feed this back via your Asus contacts to see if this is something they can do something about?
I believe this rule may be intended to keep admin portal traffic off the flow cache but is actually just catching all HTTP traffic and causing it to be processed by CPU and not hw accelerated.

I think from other research I’ve done the same firewall rule exists on other models too. You may be able to replicate it by downloading from a http source and see one of your cpu cores get pinned near 100% in the web console. In my case downloading a big game via the Microsoft store was easy to try as they seem to not use https.
switching to a https source such as steam the cpu barely gets off baseline

If so, which HTTP services did you use ?
