Probably not, unsure of what heat your current set up will create and whether this will encourage the Graphics cards fans to kick in early, even when not gaming as I am sure this card is physically larger, so less airflow etc.

Do you have any means to monitor CPU and MotherBoard temps ?

I’ll have to have a look.

Ironically, the 660 card is approx 256/7mm long and the 4060 is 247mm long so shorter, the depth is 2mm deeper 41 vs 43 i think and then height is a bit taller but overall not much in it.  Length is a bit shorter which is ok as my existing card almost comes out to the 3.5″ drive cage area so will allow little bit more room.

Core temps are looking very good, seems that under normal load or Video playback which can draw 17w, the 4060 is great and should last a few years, which is what you wanted originally.

Alas you can tie yourself up in knots with deciding whats best vs longevity etc. luckily new years day is soon so maybe an offer around online

I did read and on a slightly different architecture / cores, Nvidia slowed RTX 4090 GPU by 11 percent, to make it 100 percent legal for export to China, so something to be considered if you are looking at above 4060 etc.

Thanks, interesting, think I’m going to go with the 4060, power/noise seems pretty good so will see what happens come January and see what deals are around.

Sounds sensible especially if there are some January sales

Funny you should ask, I looked yesterday but some sites still showing Boxing day sales as opposed to Jan sales so I’m wondering when the Jan sales start or is it all the same thing these days?

I’m kind of folding fire thinking people prob were not back until today so waiting to see if any sites get updated etc..

So having just had another look around, i see some places are selling it for a lot more than others.  Some places now show Jan sales but the price is hardly anything off, maybe £20-20 max so I’ve decided to bit the bullet and buy it so I’ve just ordered it and it is due to come Saturday so will try it then.

If memory serves, Do i need to remove my existing NVidia drivers and shut the PC down, remove the card and plug the new one it and power back on, let Windows pick up a driver and then update NVidia with the correct driver or can I simply shut the PC down, insert new card and power back on and then update drivers? Been a long time since I installed a new card…

Just shut down, replace the card and let Win do its things.
Nvidia driver updated changed with Win10.

Should be plug and Play, but I would personally uninstall the drivers of your old graphics card from the Device Manager or the Control Panel then unplug card once PC has been powered down and unplugged from mains supply.

So the card came today – large box….

Removed the gfx driver but wanted a reboot to remove NVidia audio and other stuff so just shut down and installed the card.

Back in, gfx driver defaulted to a default res but whilst getting to the drivers I downloaded, it updated to a default driver by windows, better resolution. Installed the NVidia driver and for some reason it said successful but the NVidia window still saying using a older driver and new driver was available, installed again – same thing.

Rebooted now suddenly it knows its on the latest driver.

Only issue I had installing the card is that the new gfx card is a bit heavier it seems as I have a tower case so the card leans slightly and rests on my old sound blaster audio card – literally touches it and the air gab between them is 0 to about 1mm or 2mm only so I’ve pulled the sound blaster card and just using the onboard audio, remove the creative drivers also.

My sound blaster card is a sound blaster X-Fi model number SB0880 and is quiet old so I suspect the onboard sound maybe equally the same or better?
