I decided to check how the latest XR500 Firmware (v2.3.2.56) handled its ports in respect as to whether they where STEALTH, OPEN or CLOSED – I ran the GRC Shields UP tool and was pleased (relieved) to see that for firmware version XR500 v2.3.2.56 all ports are in Stealth mode when probed..

I also ran the Universal Plug n Play (UPnP)Internet Exposure Test also provided by http://www.grc.com and the XR500 with firmware v2.3.2.56  did not respond to any unsolicited UPnP probes, which  is good
