Nissan has launched a major worldwide recall of its popular X‑Trail SUV after identifying a defect that could cause engine oil temperatures to rise dangerously, potentially leading to engine damage or complete engine failure. The issue affects more than 320,000 vehicles globally, including 4,590 in the UK.
According to Nissan and multiple automotive news outlets, the problem stems from a condition where engine oil temperature may increase beyond safe limits. This can:
- Reduce engine lubrication
- Cause internal engine wear
- Lead to engine failure if not addressed
The defect specifically affects 1.5‑litre three‑cylinder petrol engines fitted to X‑Trail models manufactured between 2023 and 2026. Hybrid e‑Power versions are not affected.
