Hi all,
I know this isn’t a NowTV section but I believe now TV is owned by Sky? so posted it here… hope thats ok.
Has anyone any experience of NowTV Broadband? Just seen they are offering 63mbps for £21 a month so was wondering what nowtv broadband as like and if my RT-AX86S would work on it ok? Whilst with BT, max speed i seem to be able to get is mid 30s but i’m paying more than £21 a month at the moment when you factor in line rental as well so seems like either I get a speed increase or it stays the same but is cheaper :) Strangely, there 36mbps option is also £21 a month so i guess they trying to entice you and ten increase price for the 63mbps service after 1 year, in which case i’ll downgrade or move to a provider which wont include the line.
Been looking at FTTP but still bit too price so looking at alternatives as a idea, my contract doesn’t run out till May so i’m guessing they wont let me leave yet but £21 doesn’t seem bad and says line rental included, which whilst I don’t really want a line, BT still include it in there prices so for £21, might as well keep it for now until more ISP’s offering it without and its also a 12 month contract so not tied in for 2 years like with BT :)
Thanks
Kev

December 27, 2021 at 12:25 pm #16853I am out and about today but just to let you know that NowTV much like Sky will require the router to support DHCP Option 61
ASUS routers with stock firmware do not support this so you will need to reflash with ASUSWRT-merlin to re use your RT-AX86S if indeed it is supported by RMerlin
NowTV does support IPv6 so this is a positive 👍

December 27, 2021 at 12:47 pm #16854Thanks UK Sentinel, will look into this. Does it still require it if i’m using the Draytek modem?
Thanks

December 27, 2021 at 1:08 pm #16855It does, modem handles the VLAN separation only and router handles authentication etc.

December 27, 2021 at 2:06 pm #16856Thanks.
Just seen this on a different forum someone posted:
From Asuswrt-Merlin 386.4 Alpha changelog:
– NEW: Added support for the RT-AX86S
So looks like 86S not supported at present but is being worked on so looks like it will be when 386.4 is released :)
Something to bear in mind nearer the time, just need to see how much notice I need to give BT if I decide to move away, unless they offer me something better or match the price :)
