Hi all,
So not gone any further with the above BUT I’ve now seen a couple of different Apps for viewing/checking smart meter data so wondering what peoples opinions of these are, they are:-
Bright App (which appears you need the display = CAD as mentioned above) @ £70. Quick look on website appears app may of had a update as looks different to before. Plus side for this is ability to view it at a glance rather than loading up app on phone but not a massive issue, the display is just handy if it catches your eye you will see it using more power etc.
Huge – Free app and they will also show you different tariffs available BUT apparently don’t push you to switch etc, just giving you the info so you can make a choice/decision. These not been going very long, last year and potentially need CC details to confirm who you are IF the number of back of IHD doesn’t work so not too sure want to provide CC info.
ivie – not sure about them
utrack – appears to be done by uswitch, not sure about it as app doesn’t look as good for what can tell from pics, not downloaded it.
Loop – don’t know much about this one, app interface not as nice as Hugo and not sure it shows the same stuff as well.
Anyone here tried these apps?
Ideally want to be able to place it on multiple devices i.e. mobiles as might let family member be able to view it so can keep check on usage.
Like the idea of an app as it will show historic info so if I get a bill and its higher, I can check app and then decide ah yes, its been cold so will cost more or if nothing has changed then can start to try find out what is using more power. Had freezer in past that although worked fine, started using more power, was quiet old so replaced it all ok.
Thanks
Kev

April 27, 2023 at 8:47 am #23943Energy-tracking apps are a great way to gain oversight into your home’s energy consumption.
Are you also looking to track water usage as this could be relevant (metered and unmetered
charges) ?In a completely sane world, madness is the only freedom (J.G.Ballard).

April 27, 2023 at 7:17 pm #23954Didn’t think about the water but possibly. I have a water meter but someone still comes to read it once or twice per year, not that I’ve seen them but it says read on the statements once or twice a year.
At the moment mostly gas/elec but could do water to but not a major priority as water usage is pretty low tbh as just myself so during the week very little usage due to being at work and I don’t make breakfast before leaving.

April 27, 2023 at 8:02 pm #23956Glad you are now considering water also

Anyway, I haven’t looked at these individual apps but as a thought, these type of apps generally only seems to work on usage and do not consider standing charges and VAT etc.
Whom ever you currently get you gas/electric from, how good is there app ?

April 27, 2023 at 8:30 pm #23958They dont have a app unfortunately, only a website to login and it only allows you to see meter readings/statements, balance etc. Doesn’t show any graphs/tables of useage over a period of time etc.
Hence idea of using a app so can monitor when not at home or just to check from time to time and be able to see the history etc.
HUgo looks nice but sounds like needs CC to verify who you are and address associated to confirm your the person at property – but considering its probably a guy or team of guys developign the app, not a company so to speak like a energy company slightly dubious. Huge faily new company think only started in 2021/2022 i think. Some people said they good, app looks bit better than the bright one in terms of layout/graphics.
Bright – similar thing, need to buy the display & CAD at £70 and again another company know little about but think been going longer than Hugo and reviews looks ok so far that i’ve seen, just nto so sure about the app, doesn’t look as nice.
Loop don’t know anything about that but app screenshots don’t look as good as hugo’s.
Hugo seem to have the interface looking quiet nice but unsure about functionality of it etc as never used it, just seen screenshots.
Apparently Octopus do a app – octo aid and octo watch which supposedly is good but not seen it to know. Not sure if just IOS or if on android too.

That is a shame, I will have a chat with our neighbours when I bump into them and see what they use
