96 °C does seem a tad too hot, especially for wifi chipsets, It is getting warmer in the UK, any chance of you moving router to another location as I am sure any heat (dry air) from NAS is rising and then not helping the ASUS router.
My RT-AC86u which uses the same wifi chipset (one is same / other is slightly older) is currently running at:
2.4 GHz   –  51 °C
5 GHz  –   56 °C
Personally not seen temp that high and when I have spoken to ASUS previously about core temperatures, they say it is all expected and no one should worry, (for normal operation) as the ASUS DSL-AC88U can work in environments operation temperature (room) 0°C ~ 40°C
A couple of early firmware’s was causing issues with heat (if I recall correctly) but this was a long time ago.
Any chance of measuring air temp where ASUS is sitting ? just out of curiosity ?
