September 17, 2023 at 3:50 pm #26983Hello! First post to this forum!
Does anyone have experience or ideas on how to connect an external antenna(s) on this device?
My idea is to boost the 5G (wire will go outside of the house) and also to be able to use the WLAN network. WLAN signal levels are not that important to me as I’m also using an extender for outdoors.
If I connect 4G dipole antenna (weather proof outdoor model), does it strengthen or weaken the 5G signal?

September 17, 2023 at 4:06 pm #26986Often loss on cables is greater than antenna gain (depending on length and quality compared to antenna gain).
Better to position router directly behind window on the right side and use a repeater (with LAN backhaul) for your home.

September 17, 2023 at 6:33 pm #26987Most AVM Fritz!box’s do support a Mesh type conductivity, “FritzBox or mesh repeater”. cannot recall if this can also support wired backhaul, but an option maybe ?
The 4G dipole antenna will not increase or decrease 5G wireless strength, but should enable better connection to a mobile network giving you a faster, more reliable connection.

September 17, 2023 at 8:35 pm #26992All AVM Fritz!Repeaters may be used in AVM-Mesh.
Only small ones directly plugged in to mains wont have a LAN-Port to be connected as backhaul (they may be uses as WLAN-repeater only).
All others may be used with LAN conntection to another AVM router (Fritz!Box) or Fritz!Repeater and have 2 LAN ports (one to master and another to a client or repeater again).Fritz!Boxes may be used as repeater as well.
They all allow LAN-backhaul and some of them even WLAN-backhaul, see the list below.
So they are ideal to get a second live if you have an unused old one (Fritz!OS 7 is needed to support AVM-mesh).https://en.avm.de/faqs/which-fritz-products-support-mesh/

I acknowledge these things. It’s a good point that there comes signal loss especially with a long cable. This Fritz!Box replaced a Huawei B818-263 4G which failed to keep the 4G up without the same Outdoor antenna. And with the antenna the speed was still horrible. That Huawei was piece of sh!%. It’s the worst 4G modem I’ve ever installed to anyone. I hear it being good for those who actually have a strong signal out there.
The only place for the modem router is behing a huge balcony. It’s there where there is ethernet socket to route the Network/Internet to two floors under. To those floors the WLAN signal is really weak with any device from the top floor how ever the antennas are positioned.

Yes, good points. That’s how I was thinking it could be.
