    Hi all,

Anyone bank with Chase bank? I’ve had a email advising I need to answer a questionnaire regarding personal details in order to keep using the app.  I have also had the same message via the app so believe it is legit, not a scam.

Anyway, I was expecting them to ask to verify my address, dob, name, email etc but nope.

They asked to verify address, all ok, then they want to know what area I work in, what year I started my job, how much money I pay in each month, how much I spend each month

Now, I’ve been on to there chat and advised that this doesn’t seem to be verify personal info and is it mandatory to fill in.

They have advised I need to otherwise in 60 days I wont be able to make payments et until it is filled in.  I have advised I don’t believe this is to verify my personal info but I’m just directed to a FAQ where it says they can ask info to help protect against fraud etc but I’m not so sure, it seems more they they want to profile me/use it for marketing purposes.

Just wondered what others thing as I’m considering leaving them tbh.  I’ve never had this from any other bank I use, might of had one ask to verify my email and address but that’s’ all, never wanting to know what year I started job as surely that means nothing as they don’t ask the company so impossible to verify in anyway shape or form.

Only reason I have it is for the 1% cash back, which is pretty low but no fee.  Will look around and see if anything else offering cash back but suspect there is a fee which will large not be worth it I suspect.

Half tempted t fill in any details at all as its irrelevant I feel.

I mean, I’ve been with them for 2 years, they know how much is paid in/taken out each month and its never the same so its irrelevant.

It does sound as though they are data harvesting presumable for some sort of credit/marketing profile for yourself and ensuring that you are not money laundering etc.

Chase Bank UK is owned by JPMorgan and I have heard positive reviews generally.

Lots of other options out there if you are not happy releasing that level of detail and Starling I have used in the past and had no complaints.

Alas for myself nowadays, I keep my ‘main current account’ as ‘main high street bank’, and my spending via various online options.

Agree, I use main high street banks for main account activity, i only got chase due to the 1% case back so I effectively transfer some money to chase, use it in shops/online and benefit from the 1% cash back as there is no fee.  I have looked elsewhere, Santander do a similar card offering 2% cashback in 1st year, then 1% after but it has a £3 a month fee so effectively I’ve got to make £3 in cash back to break even, anything extra is a gain so not as favourable.

I have reluctantly submitted some info but I basically made it up, I mean how much money will you pay in/take out each month – how am I gig to know that as it varies month to make and not necessarily I the same ball park i.e. might need to buy a more expensive item one month, might not have as much to buy another month hence not paying in as much etc…

I left a reply to a thread started by someone else a while back on another forum and they seem sure its all to do with preventing fraud and stuff but have also said they cannot confirm any details i.e. salary, when I started my job etc so I just made up a figure, no way am i giving them that info as I just don’t see why they need it, especially when they say its to confirm my personal info? I mean its not a credit card, I have no DD/SO coming out, its literally a account I pay some money into and then use it as day to day buying.  Was tempted to close it but someone said if you close a chase account, they wont let you re-open another i.e. if closed all accounts.

If a alternative/better card comes along, I think I’d be tempted to switch tbh, not keen on this “big brother wants to know all your personal info” I mean I get they need to confirm address, name, email etc but they only asked for address.  They already have confirmed my identity when I opened the account so its all a bit odd especially when they will stop you being able to use account if you don’t answer the questions.

Take a look at Starling Bank, might be worth a consideration and is British.

Thanks, doesn’t look bad but doesn’t appear any cashback, might bear in mind for future use if Chase gets worse or expenses drop and cashback isn’t worth it any longer.

    Hi,

So chase is dropping cashback on anything other than groceries, transport and fuel from 7th April so been looking for alternatives to still get cashback as kind of got used to it now. Admittedly not much but all adds up,

I’ve gone with amazon barclaycard as I use amazon a reasonable amount, downside is cashback is via gift cards only in £5 multiples but not too bad, i can choose to save it up and get a larger gift card later, will see how it goes plus as I’m a prime member if nothing else might use it towards the yearly fee, have to see. I got £30 gift card for signing up so will come in handy. I’m not expecting a massive amount back as will likely be penny per shop. I also get 0.5% elsewhere for 1 year dropping to 0.25% after, 2% on special amazon days/events. I’m hoping to split stuff between this and chase to get cashback on most things I buy.

Might be worth considering if anyone is in similar position using amazon :)
