It does sound as though they are data harvesting presumable for some sort of credit/marketing profile for yourself and ensuring that you are not money laundering etc.
Chase Bank UK is owned by JPMorgan and I have heard positive reviews generally.
Lots of other options out there if you are not happy releasing that level of detail and Starling I have used in the past and had no complaints.
Alas for myself nowadays, I keep my ‘main current account’ as ‘main high street bank’, and my spending via various online options.
