So just checked and yes on the Fritz!box 3490, LAN1 can be used as an ethernet WAN port.
So as long as you either connect the 3490 to the ONT or the fibre Modem/router that can support bridge mode, then your vpn feature should work as normal, via LAN 1.
Alas if your FTTH connection is 1Gb, then the 3490 may struggle with this speed for VPN and wifi etc.
There is the The FB 5530 which is a dedicated fibre modem/router if you are feeling brave

Iโll stick with the 3490. The VPN is more important to me than speed. 100mbps is enough.

Better to use an ONT (from provider) and an own router, could be a 4060 or 7590(ax) if you need more speed.
Here (in Austria) the fibre models wont work on PON, as providers may use special configs on net and user side, so you have to stick on their ONT.You need to login in order to vote

If/When you do get FTTH, let us know how it goes with the 3490 and your VPN

October 4, 2023 at 8:27 am #27290My ISP, Zen, will only be using City Fibre or Openreach networks so it make take a while as City Fibre have no plans installing fibre in my area!
