Important news for Gmail power users: Google is dropping the feature whereby Gmail can collect mail from other email accounts over POP3.
Google is removing Gmail’s ability to fetch mail from other email accounts using POP3.
That “Check mail from other accounts (POP3)” feature — which let you pull email from non-Gmail accounts into your Gmail inbox — is being discontinued starting January 2026.It’s not just POP3 fetch:
Gmailify — a feature that brought Gmail’s spam protection and inbox features to third-party accounts — is also being shut down.
What this means for you
Any external emails previously collected into Gmail via POP3 will no longer sync new messages. Only old messages already downloaded remain in your inbox.
The web interface won’t show the “Check mail from other accounts” option anymore (it’s being removed from Settings).
Gmail mobile apps (Android/iOS) can still access external accounts via IMAP, but this is different from the old POP3 fetch and doesn’t bring them into your main Gmail inbox in the same way.
