Google has issued an urgent warning to all users of its Chrome browser to update their version immediately.
The tech giant has picked up on a new ‘high severity’ security hole.
And while it hasn’t explicitly explained what the problem is, it appears to affect Microsoft’s Edge browser as well.
Microsoft is also advising users to install the latest security updates.
Whatever the issue is, a security hole is not something you want on your device as they allow hackers to compromise and take over computer systems.
Google and Microsoft usually issue new security patches for their respective browsers every four weeks, but both companies have pushed out an emergency update to deal with this problem.
First detected on March 23, the issue is what’s known as a ‘zero-day’ vulnerability, meaning it was found before any security fix was in place to protect people. Therefore, it could well have been exploited by hackers already.
Given there are an estimated 3.2 billion people using Chrome around the world, you can see why Google is keen for people to install the security update promptly.

How to update Google Chrome’s security settings:
If you use Google Chrome, then you need to update the browser to version 99.04844.84 or later.
Here’s how you do it:
It will only take a few seconds to download the update – you’ll just need to relaunch Chrome to finish the process. You can either do that right away or at a later convenient time.
The reason Microsoft’s Edge browser is also affected is because it uses the same underlying technology as Chrome.
Therefore, if you’re using Edge, follow the steps above and click on About Microsoft Edge to make sure you’ve got the latest version installed.
