Microsoft has issued an urgent Windows update after a recent security patch caused some PCs to refuse to shut down or hibernate correctly.
The problem followed Januaryโs updates and mainly affected Windows 11 version 23H2, particularly on systems with Secure Launch enabled. Instead of powering off as expected, impacted computers would restart or stay switched on.
To resolve the issue, Microsoft released an out-of-band fix, delivered separately from its usual monthly update cycle. The patch also resolves remote desktop login problems introduced by the same update.
Users affected by the shutdown issue are advised to check Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog and install the latest emergency fix.
