    Hi all,

So recently, I’ve noticed that when I have my server on, some mobile apps on my phone wont load.  Anyone else had this at all?

The only change I’ve made on the router is to add a “Manually Assigned IP around the DHCP list” entry for 1 MAC address (a VM) and to specify the DNS server of my home server purely so it will PXE boot the VM as was having some issues so I added this.

Everything else is as was as I’ve only added my MECM server that’s all and noting else has changed on my home server setup and this server isn’t on unless i turn it on (so not auto start up).

If I turn server off or turn WIFI off and go over mobile data, apps work fine.

It’s not all apps, its only some.  So for example Bank A app works but Bank B app just spins….

As said only changes I can think of recently are:-

the one mentioned above Manually Assigned IP around the DHCP list which has 1 MAC address listed.

Updates were done to mobile phone and some apps (can’t recall which apps as lots are done automatically)

So not sure where to start so thought I’d see if other people have had any issues.

Not updated my router firmware (still on 3.0.0.4.386_46061).

    Thanks

    Kev

Most likely DNS related as above mentioned by @Grisu.

Have not read of any recent DNS issues with ASUS kit but worth a try updating to Version 3.0.0.4.386.49599 as they have added since Version 3.0.0.4.386.46061:

Added 3rd party DNS server list in WAN –> DNS to help users enhance the connection security.

    Also;

    1. Any switches in network ?
    2. Also check manually assigned IP address is outside routers DHCP IP pool.
    3. Check DNS settings on mobile phone to see if there are any clues (DNS server home).
    4. Are router and server on same Subnet (sounds like they are) ?

I cannot decide if this maybe NAT issue, but worth a thought.

TBH – it may well be worth introducing a second router/switch so that your server environment is on a different subnet from Wifi / Internet router (general use) etc. or maybe even provide an airgap solution between the two IP networks ?

P.S. Draytek kit is great for this

Thanks, will check out DNS and see if anything is up.  My MECM server is not on all the time, only when i want it so i can rule that out as a possible issue although hard to see how it would be but is only new box I’ve setup.

Not updated the router as I recall there was some potential issues some were running into so decided to fold fire and as this version of the firmware has been fine since I’ve had it, I’m keen to leave it as is for now as I know it can’t be that as I’ve been running it for a few months now without any issues so don’t want to update it and add that to the mix of possible issues.

Will check out DNS when I next need to turn the server on.

The server is my main server that all clients are connected to (domain) so when server is off, they login with cached credentials and work fine albeit network shares are obviously unavailable if server is off but I got nas where I store most stuff so only turn server on when i need to access DBs or other data I store on the server.

    Thanks

    Kev
