    Hi All

Thinking of changing from Orbi 752 to TP-Link X90 as I don’t want to pay extra for Parental Controls subscriptions and Β TP-Link X 90 is one recommendation.
Does anyone know if you have to pay extra for features that allow you to limit access to some sites only during certain hours of the day? I am thinking of Steam and gaming sites while allowing access to other sites.

Also any thoughts on general usage experience, range , speed ,stability Β would be appreciated.

    thanks for your help.

    Lou

    Don’t blame you

Maybe easier to break this down for you a little better in terms of your other post around Wifi mesh extender systems and free Parental Controls etc. (may not be accurate and based on best en-devours basis only).

Currently (I maybe wrong) there are 5 main Wifi Mesh (SOHO) manufacturers out there excludingΒ  BT – that support Wifi 6 and/orΒ  Wifi 6E

    • ASUS ZenWifi ET8 (wifi 6 /6E)
    • ASUS ZenWifi XT8 (wifi 6)
    • Amazon eero Pro 6 tri-band mesh (wifi 6)
    • LinksysΒ  Atlas Max 6E – AXE8400 (wifi 6 /6E)
    • Linksys MX10 Velop AX – MX10600 (wifi 6)
    • NETGEAR WiFi 6 Orbi – AX6000 (WiFi 6)
    • TP-Link Deco – X90 (WiFi 6)
    • TP-Link Deco X60 (WiFi 6)
    • TP-Link Deco – X20 (WiFi 6)
    • (maybe other models – but I have tried to list main units only)

From a Wifi 6E perspective – only the ASUS ZenWifi ET8 and the LinksysΒ  Atlas Max 6E – AXE8400 are supporting Wifi 6E currently.

    ————

Parental Controls for Wifi 6E Range Extender (MESH):

    • ASUS ZenWifi ET8 – (Inclusive I believe)
    • LinksysΒ  Atlas Max 6E – AXE8400 – (Basic but inclusive)

‘Linksys Atlas Max does not support Linksys Aware and Linksys Shield currently’ – https://www.linksys.com/

    Winner is ASUS ZenWifi ET8

    ————-

Parental Controls for Wifi 6 Range Extender (MESH):

    • Β· ASUS ZenWifi XT8 (wifi 6)

Inclusive/ Free and good (AiProtection / Trend)

    • Β· Amazon eero Pro 6 tri-band meshΒ (wifi 6)

Does not support PPPoE, so a main router (modem/router) is needed to enable Any Parental control.

    • Β· Linksys MX10 Velop AX – MX10600Β (wifi 6)

Linksys Shield is subscription based (paid)

Linksys Aware is subscription based (paid) (but is for home security)

    • Β NETGEAR WiFi 6 Orbi – AX6000 (WiFi 6)

    Smart Parental Controls (paid)

    • TP-Link Deco – X90 (WiFi 6)

HomeShield security software. (Some HomeShield features require a subscription –

    HomeShield Pro plan)

    • TP-Link Deco X60 v1Β (WiFi 6)

TP-Link’s HomeCare parental controls and anti-malware tools – Free

    • TP-Link Deco – X20 v1 (WiFi 6)

TP-Link’s HomeCare parental controls and anti-malware tools – Free

    Winner ASUS ZenWifi XT8 (free)

    Thanks again UK Sentinel.

Appears neither contender is available in the UK yet?

And judging by US pricing the LinksysΒ  Atlas seems to be so expensive that I don’t think I will be able to afford it.

    No Problem

The Linksys units uses theΒ  chipset manufacturer (Qualcomm) and has double the RAM and CPU performanceΒ  compared to ASUS and TP-Link units, hence the increased cost

So from my above mini wiki, seems the Lower End TP-Link Deco X60 v1 / TP-Link Deco X20 v1 or ASUS ZenWifi XT8 are the only units that are free for parental controls as they both use Trend Micro and you sign you life away buy sending all your data (traffic) via their servers etc.

    Winner ASUS ZenWifi XT8 (free)
