I have a Asus DSL-AB88U and a G.Fast connection to my Turkish ISP.

The modem / router has started to behave badly – dropping connection and failing to serve DHCP requests.

I am looking to replace it. Does ASUS or anybody else sell a modem router that is G.Fast with Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)

Welcome and thank you for joining, as you say, the DSL-AC88U is not a good model and a shame ASUS no longer support improvemens to this model.

Would you consider a separate modem and router as this would give you more choice, much less choice is available with an inbuilt G.fast modem/router wifi 6 router ?

    G.Fast Modem/Routers AX:

    • Vigor 2866 ax
    • FRITZ!Box 5550 (I believe – hopefully @Grisu maybe able to advise) ?

    G.Fast Modems:

    • Vigor 166
    • Zyxel XMG5101-S10A

    Full List of G.Fast modem

G.fast Modem and G.fast Wifi Modem Router List

If you opt for a separate modem / router, then your choice of Wifi 6 routers is considerable improved and can be tailoured to meet you requirements etc.

    • TP-Link Archer AX50 (AX3000)
    • ASUS RT-AX86U
    • Netgear Nighthawk Wifi 6 Router (RAX70)

I can only tell you that you won’t find any shop selling a Fritzbox 5550.

It should fit your requirements, but still not published.

Stay with provider modem (for G.fast) and your own WLAN-router behind to serve your home.

And it is still not even clear to the community whether 5550 G.fast is meant to support it on DSL from provider or only use is to provide G.fast internally to another G.fast modem in your private network on old phone wires – some asume to be the latter.

But nobody can tell as it has been presented in 2019 and never has been seen by an user, I think it will never arrive.

I did look at a few pictures for the 5550 G.fast  and it does have a DSL port, but yes, clarity would be needed

I know it has, but it was advertised to be used instead of LAN (or WLAN) between 2 locations which you have connected only by 2-wires (e.g. from old phone).
So it can act as DSL-“master” like on provider side, it has never been said to be an G.fast modem.

It is confusing as I read this a while ago.

I think I will send AVM an email to clarify, but maybe difficult as 5500 not available yet

    ——-

The FRITZ!Box 5550 Fiber shares the same features as the 5530, without the 2 Gbit ports, adding a G.Fast capable DSL modem. Let’s hope AVM also includes Fiber/DSL bonding or failover similar to the 6890
