As an update on the original post, the original conversion to allow the use of the DSL-AC68U to be converted to run either ASUSWRT (RT) Stock firmware or flashed with ASUSWRT-RMerlin firmware, still shows when logging onto the converted DSL-AC68U console, the DSL-AC68U name rather than RT-AC68U.
Also, recently, on ASUSWRT stock firmware, AiMesh has been released (not RMerlin) and as such, AiMesh does not work correctly on a DSL-AC68U converted to run RT-AC68U.
To enable the DSL-AC68U to correctly show via User Interface (RT-AC68U) and to offer AiMesh (Node) option, enter the following via PUTTY (telnet).
nvram set odmpid=”RT-AC68U”
nvram set asuscpeodmpid=”RT-AC68U”
nvram set asuscpecommit=1
nvram commit
and hey presto, a DSL-AC68U that looks and acts as a True RT-AC68U with AiMesh (Node) option.
Have not tested how to reverse this option, but I have taken a backup of the configs and performed a NVRAM SHOW screen dump, just incase ?

UPDATE: Command should be………….
nvram set odmpid=”RT-AC68U”
nvram set asuscfeodmpid=”RT-AC68U”
nvram set asuscfecommit=1
