The ASUS RT-AX82U 5400 Dual Band + Wi-Fi 6 is an ideal choice as it is the same spec and great value to fully utilize AiMesh etc.

Only reason to go beyond RT-AX82U ‘dual band’ is if you are looking to support more LAN ports – improved wifi  coveridge or maybe add a Gaming router in which case then ASUS ROG brands rate well, but maybe better to swap DSL-AX82U from Primary AiMesh to Node and use ROG router as AiMesh primary, with a separate modem etc.

ASUS RT-AX86S AX5700 is a nice dual band unit with a smaller footprint and supports AiMesh, but at increased cost for adding with DSL-AX82U

Just depends what you are really trying to achieve, Dual band vs Tri-band and budget available ?

e.g. – Traditional Tri-Band = (2.4GHz + 5GHz + 5GHz) where as Dual band (2.4GHz + 5GHz) so if using AiMesh via wireless 5GHz backhaul, then using a Tri-band AiMesh node would free up a single 5GHz channel for usage etc.

But likewise, you would loose the 5GHz on the DSL-AX82U as this would then be used for backhual.
