Netgear is usually poor from a firmware perspective and best avoided, but I am using the Netgear XR500 due to its Geo-Filter (british) add-on and love the gaming (console)
Alas no ASUS product are MCT approved hence maybe why the DSl-AC68U is causing line/DSL speed issues.
I believe (if you are technical) you could get hold of a BT HG612 modem and get it unlocked to support G.inp (this was a while ago but I a sure it still applies)
BT HG612 is Broadcom and take a look at link, just make sure the HG612 is v 3b
