Yes, plus side is bills are accurate and with the Ivie app, I can see usage and also on the Ivie bud if I decide to get it. Downside is potentially changing every approx. 10 years as that’s estimated how long the batter in it will last and although the battery I believe can be replaced, from what I’ve read most companies just replace the smart meter with another one (not sure that’s overly environmentally friendly) but I guess depends do the simply scrap/recycle the old one or take it away, fit a new battery and then re-issue to someone else? I’d imagine they wouldn’t re-issue immediately as would take some time for suppliers etc to update systems to reflect this one not in use at the address etc and ensure enough time goes by where no issues can be raised regarding that meter? I’ve seen some people on forums complaining about meter readings going back year or never received a bill etc.
I’m tempted but at same time – its no bother as is, I take a reading as and when and its reasonably accurate tbh and if my supplier over estimated and I submit a lower reading that they estimated previously, they have adjusted it, with no questions etc so its not causing me any real issues, would just be nice to have. There is also lot of people who don’t want smart meters so can never please anyone but I guess would make sense to get it done at some point, I’d just like to get the meter I’d prefer over them fitting anything but as mine is in one of those semi concealed outside boxes (see pic below, probably not exactly that one but its similar to that as I can only see the top, rest is in ground so cant’ say what it looks like overall), I believe some suppliers advise it wont fit etc but it already houses as traditional size non-smart gas meter so I believe it would fit? Probably just some small pipe adjustment needed maybe but likely the same for the small white one too as doubt existing pipes will fit the location of the white ones.
