Hi all,
Just got a email regarding Hugo App Pro, seems they have added “Home AI” which basically breaks down your usage by what your doing i.e. cooking, laundry, refrigeration etc.
Just wondering if people think it’s worth signing up? Its about £15 for the year ATM, will go up to £19.99 for the year soon.
Seems it also allows having multiple properties so wondering if I can add my parents place to it to as well or if they both have to be in my name..
Thanks
Kev

May 28, 2024 at 6:51 pm #32365Seems only if in your name as they want a utility bill as proof of your ink to the address :( shame as would of been handy to view/manage parents place. There is also an additional charge, not sure if monthly or a one off.
Also thinking about this more, how ill they know what you are actually using….

May 28, 2024 at 7:12 pm #32366Is this the App/Dashboard ? looks very comprehensive.
After a quick read, the Hugo App can Control Smart Appliances Including any electric vehicles, solar, heating, smart thermostats, cooling and battery equipment.
Not so sure about washing machines etc.

May 28, 2024 at 7:26 pm #32367But a 7 day free trial from what I read does seem worth a shot.

May 28, 2024 at 7:54 pm #32368Yeah, that’s it, I’m just not sure how will I know my cooker is on? how will it know I’m doing laundry? the fridge/freezer usage? they are all standard appliances, no smart functionality etc.
Looks to me like it is guessing which means it cold be wrong i.e. it shows my fridge/freezer is supposedly using a lot of energy, I upgrade it and it could make no difference I it wasn’t my fridge/freezer, I’m not sure how it can tell the difference between appliances.

May 28, 2024 at 8:18 pm #32369All electric appliances emit electromagnetic radiation at a low frequency, so I wonder if this is how the App picks up individual devices on your Ringmain.
Best to drop them an email and then we will all know, when you do

May 29, 2024 at 5:44 am #32373They just measure the current.
Each device got its own characteristics which tells them what is on.
Not 100% but they might get it even very close. You need to login in order to vote

January 16, 2025 at 1:26 pm #35379Hi, been using Hugo and now HugoPro since it started. It’s not bad. As it gathers your smart meter data overall usage is accurate. If you pay extra for EV data this is also accurate as it will access your car. Battery data is also good as again it directly accesses the data (Tesla Powerwall in my case). I expect solar data is also good but have been unable to get mine to work. As for the AI breakdown – it is mainly guesswork so take it with a ‘pinch of salt’. The breakdown for my usage is largely rubbish. The App and website also needs some work. For example if you want to know how much your EV is costing in a month there is no way to find out without manually adding up the individual numbers from the bar chart. I will probably pay for another 12 months usage in the hope that it gets better.

January 16, 2025 at 2:00 pm #35382January 17, 2025 at 7:18 pm #35401Hi,
I never signed up to the Pro version in the end, I only have a smart meter for elec, I haven’t switched my gas meter to a smart meter yet so I decided, until I eventually switch both, it wasn’t worth it and tbh the standard version shows me usage so I’m not sure I’d really gain much form the pro version. Only thing I can think of is when they run some cash back type offers whereby if you reduce energy usage between x and y o’clock, they will pay you £x per kw you reduce your usage by and tbh When I tried it on the normal version (before that feature moved to pro version) I got back pennies so wasn’t really worth it to me. For larger families who use more, I can see it being an incestive but for myself, it wasn’t really worth it.
I was considering switch my gas meter to smart meter previously when I was considering switching supplier as figured they would be able to pull the reading rather than me provide a starting reading etc but i still had to provide a starting meter reading for my Elec, even though its smart so again wasn’t much point me changing it for now. Only advantage would be once they read it, my bills would be accurate but tbh I’ve got custom to building up a bit of credit for winter months to try and avoid DD increases or the you owe us £x due to higher usage etc so it works quiet well as it is, I just supply a feeding every few months and they adjust the bill accordingly as I don’t really use much gas during summer, its only really winter so my gas meter hardly increases in summer and they usually estimate a higher value reading that I have used so every few months i provide potentially the same meter reading :)

April 26, 2025 at 8:19 pm #37326Hi all,
I never got the Hugo Pro app in the end, I stayed on the free Hugo app. However, I just got a email yesterday I think advising they are closing the free Hugo app end of April 2025 and you can sign up to there Hugo Pro app at £2.99 a month.
Have to say slightly disappointed they are closing the app but as its free and they advise the development/support costs are rising as it’s based on old code etc, I get it, but I was hoping for a little bit more notice, not 5 days.
So I have just registered for the Ivie app, just waiting for my data to come through. This is free ap and IF i want effectively a IHD, I can purchase one for £49.99 and it will give me live readings via the app if I understood the quick read correctly. At the moment, I’m not overly fussed about live readings. Still only have smart Elec meter, not changed the gas one yet so not a big issue, I suspect it will update daily or similar.

April 27, 2025 at 8:51 am #37327Cheeky of them to only give you five days notice, at least the Ivie app is free.
They also have the ‘ivie Bud in-home display’ which you mention above which looks interesting and it gives you Live data readings and at only £49.99 which I think is a one off cost and a good deal.
The Ivie app is owned by Chameleon Technology (UK) Limited which is a British company. It is based in Harrogate, England

April 27, 2025 at 11:17 am #37328Yes, I’m considering the IHD as my one stopped working correctly in that it was always in the red, even with nothing on and items in standby etc so i turned it off, left it a while and now when you power it on, it doesn’t boot up. So might consider getting it but atm still waiting for energy data to come to app as still no data so far. As only got elec smart meter, wondering how beneficial it would be as only shows elec, no gas atm.

April 27, 2025 at 1:34 pm #37329Good point, if no Gas Smart Meter then does seem not as beneficial for Ivie Bud.
Are you looking to ask your energy supplier to upgrade your Gas meter to a Smart meter ?
