Indeed yes the IHD do certainly serve a purpose for a lot of people. The home mini is a great little device and they’re not charging for it, may well be worth putting yourself on the waitlist for one of it’s of interest, just need to have a plug socket somewhere in a reasonable range to your meter that can also reach your wifi network. I stuck mine on my IOT wifi network just in case. Easy to set up and then I don’t think about it it just enhances and provides more up to date/live usage info within the octopus app. Really this is what the smart meters should be providing and octopus are just briging that gap.
I don’t agree with everything Octopus does but this is one of their genuinely customer friendly helpful initiaves. Alongside when they let people borrow thermal cameras during the winter to track down heat loss in the home for free, that’s worth a go too if you haven’t taken advantage.
