On my soundbar, I can use remote to select between Optical, Bluetooth etc. so easily done when viewing changes between TV, laptop and other medias etc etc.
TV is set for Internal speaker & Sound Bar so if soundbar is not On, then TV speakers are used automatically .
I suppose HDMI option is easiest for you given the tech comprises you have. 
I read as a Brand, Monoprice (American brand) does rate well so worth a look for cables etc.
http://www.orei.com is a good brand for HDMI Switches etc.
