Latest firmware update has added more features for gaming and opening ports, what’s the best setup for Xbox one X?

August 7, 2020 at 4:05 pm #8874Do you have only one Xbox 1 X console or more or any other gaming consoles as this will decide whether port forwarding or UPnP is best option for OPEN Nat etc.
What Asus model do you have, I forget ?

August 7, 2020 at 4:58 pm #8878RT-AC86U, I have got one Xbox X, three xbox ones and two laptops for gaming. That could all be playing at the same time.
When I add a gaming device to the game accelerator it turns off the adaptive QOS game prioritisation, if I turn on adaptive QOS gaming prioritisation it turns off the game accelerator.

August 7, 2020 at 6:48 pm #8879Correct, Using Game Accelerator will disable Adaptive QoS and visa versa I believe.
Alas the ASUS Game Accelerator does not change the default que discipline of the router, like Cake etc for buffer bloat improvement and alas
All these features are just fancy looking options that does the same as ASUS Standard QoS.
The gaming priority feature, is basically enabling “Traditional QoS” more simplistically for users.
Are you doing your Port Forwarding currently. are all Xbox’s OPEN NAT ?
Edit: also ensure Que Discipline is set to fq_codel for Gaming and set your upload and download speeds to 5% less than your actual speed.
Usually it is 10% but as your speeds are so low, hopefully 5% will help with buffer bloat etc.

August 7, 2020 at 7:15 pm #8881As a follow on, there is/was debate about ASUS Adaptive QoS vs Bandwidth Limiting and in essence, it was the case that adaptive QoS was slow for response for each packet and its prioritization, which can add packet delay and cause gaming delays etc.
Traffic Bandwidth limiting just ensures each nominated device receives a guaranteed minimum amount of throughput and is the option I tend to use nowadays for our 2 x Xbox one Xs and a gaming PC,

August 7, 2020 at 8:42 pm #8883So are you saying leave Gear Accelerator Game Device Prioritizing off and use QOS and select fq_codel? When I select fq_codel i get the options in the attached screen shot, which should I select?

August 8, 2020 at 5:34 am #8887Yes, leave GA Off, Select the PPPoE VDSL option
If any of the consoles play Fifa 20, then test with GA and then with Traditional QoS, great exercise for family bonding but not during fut champs ;-)
FYI – https://www.snbforums.com/threads/gaming-accelerator-bug.65616/#post-608174
As you have about 35Mbps, I would allocate 5Mbps for each Xbox and the same for gaming PC,
What are your consoles NAT Type currently if all on at the same time ?

August 8, 2020 at 6:18 am #8888Have you Tried WTFast which is like a VPN for gamers, alas for myself, the console games supported by WTFast via ASUS routers was not good, so never got round to trying it?
https://uktechhub.com/forums/topic/asus-wtfast-router-supported-games/
Only supports one client free, but maybe another option for improved gaming .

August 8, 2020 at 8:10 am #8893Now I have set it up as you suggested it is allowing GA to be turned on. I will leave it off. I have open Nat on my Xbox one X and on the other Xbox here. The other two are my sons and they are not here this weekend. WTFast is not good as the only games it supports are ones we do not play.

August 8, 2020 at 8:31 am #8894If your sons Consoles are available, try turning them on also and see what NAT type they are getting when yours is on also?
If you fancy a budget friendly gaming router to play with, try the just released R2, only about £130 and British
