Apple has started asking iPhone and iPad users in the United Kingdom to prove they are over 18 before accessing certain apps and content. The new requirement comes with the iOS 26.4 update and affects age-restricted apps, adult websites, and other features.
Users can verify their age by scanning a government-issued ID or using a credit card stored in Apple Wallet. Those who do not complete verification may find their devices automatically restricted, with adult content blocked.
Apple says the change is part of its commitment to online safety, a move welcomed by UK regulators. Some users have reported seeing verification prompts immediately after updating, and the feature is gradually rolling out across UK devices.
This new step ensures that minors have limited access to age-sensitive content while giving adults uninterrupted access once their age is confirmed.
