After chatting with forum user @Grisu, regarding AiProtection, I decided to speak with ASUS regarding current status of AiProtection within both the xDSL and RT range of wifi products.
Apart from some of the xDSL models having slow file transfer speed and already reported RAM issues. ASUS believe that AiProtection currently is working (well) with latest firmware’s. (for xDSL models)
For model such as RT-AC86U / GT-AC5300 / RT-AC88U / RT-AC3100 / RT-AC5300, with v3.0.0.4.384_45149 there is known dcd crash that leads to dpi engine fail to operate issue. Should be fixed with next firmware release. ETA by mid or end of April.
However, customer with issue should submit a feedback, then ASUS could provide beta firmware for those customers first. Or check whether there is other issue.
Note: ASUS xDSL Feedback service via UI is not currently working, so feedback should be via xdsl_feedback@asus.com
I believe the ASUS RT-AC68U with recent firmware’s does not work well, so feel free to add you wifi product to the list below.
Update: As for RT-AC68U, firmware v3.0.0.4.384_45708 was released on 3/29, so unsure if AiP issues still reside.
I will of course update this thread/Topic if I have any more updates from ASUS.

April 4, 2019 at 5:29 pm #2572Even Merlin recommends to stay away from this 45708 firmware on RT-AC68U:

Too many problems reported …
Better to wait for Easter Egg release in some weeks ;-)

April 4, 2019 at 8:30 pm #2580Good to know, as RMerlin has commented, this is not sounding promising for latest RT-AC68U firmware also, I have read on another forum that also for the RT-AC68U has had no Two-Way-IPS entries since firmware 3.0.0.4.384_45708, ASUS does seem to have lost it way a little with AiProtection, but hopefully only minor issues (generally) across its product range ?
