Hi.. Can someone please explain the firmware update procedure for this router. There seem to be different series of FWs available, I have downloaded:

    FW_DSL_N66U_1113

    and

    DSL-N66U_v9.1.2.3_743-gf5b4545

Logic suggests that the 9 series is the later of the two, but when I try to update it I just get an ‘Invalid’ message.

    Have I missed something?

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve

The latest firmware for the DSL-N66U from ASUS download servers is Version 2.2.2.8 (2016/04/14)

The latest firmware (beta) from ASUS DSL-N66U_v9.1.2.3_743-gf5b4545 (01/07/2019)

Basically, ASUS stopped officially supporting this model a few years back but do provide updates (beta) out of goodwill

Not sure where you obtained your version FW_DSL_N66U_1113 from ?

What is you current firmware version on router ?

    Thanks… I’ll check the router..

So, can I use the beta? Do have to unzip the archive first?

I got the firmware from here

    https://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Router-Switch-Access-Point/ASUS/ASUS-DSL-N66U-Router-Firmware-1-1-1-3.shtml

Thanks again for the quick reply and advice …

I see , that firmware is a couple of years old.

My firmware is from ASUS DSL team and after you have download the ASUS DSL-N66U_v9.1.2.3_743-gf5b4545  it is in a .zip format (compressed) so will need unzipping ?

The beta firmware generally work well and keeping the routers firmware upto date ensures the latest security fixes are applied
