If you have ever wondered what the difference is between the 9.x.x.x.xxx and the 3.x.x.x.xxx series of Firmware releases from ASUS are, then the 9.x.x.x.xxx are for Beta releases and the 3.x.x.x.xxx series is for Official releases
e.g for the RT-AC87U (27th July 2016)
ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4_380.3459 = Official Release
ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware version 9.0.0.4.380.2695 = Beta Release
