Can anyone recommend a good, non-Chinese (privacy concerns) free VPN service for use with an ASUS router for streaming from/to the US ?
Ideally looking to set up a VPN client for a single device sitting behind the Asus router utilising VPN.
ASUS router in question already has Asuswrt-Merlin installed so plan to take advantage of VPN Director also

May 13, 2024 at 7:12 pm #32201After looking at various free VPN solutions for my ASUS router, I opted for Proton VPN which is based from Switzerland.
Proton VPN free option has unlimited data usage policy and connections (VPN Servers) located in five countries.
Now using my ASUS router flashed with ASUSWRT-Merlin firmware, I have my Sky box using the VPN so I can pick up all those extra shows in the US

May 14, 2024 at 7:30 pm #32210Hi,
Just seen this, I have NordVPN and so far been ok but I don’t use it for streaming as when I got it they had no option to easily add to appleTVs and I didn’t want to do it on my router and have all traffic go via VPN so i keep it to just certain devices.
I believe NordVPN now has a app on appleTV so you could do it but I’ve not had a need to yet.
Only went with NordVPN due to price, was going to go with expressvpn as they meant to be the best and 0 logs etc but was a higher price and nord were offering a 2 year deal that was too good to miss so opted for it with a view to change to express possibly after the 2 years.

May 14, 2024 at 7:58 pm #32211NordVPN is working very well so far, no disconnects etc.
FYI, using Asuswrt – Merlin (I forget which Asus router you have) you can via using VPN Director configure the VPN client connection to be applicable to one device on the LAN, this means all other devices can use WAN connection as default access to internet
Stock ASUS routers use VPN Fusion to achieve same VPN seperation.
