So we have an old Bissell Plus carpet washer which we use for cleaning our car seats and I went to use it recently and noticed that when I fill and attach the clean water tank, the water floods out through the front of the machine at floor level.

So I removed the clean water tank and had a look and seems that the there is a valve type system that is operated from the handle.
I then removed the handle from the main body by removing two screws
The handle has a trigger that when pressed pushes a plunger at the base of the handle, this plunger then presses onto the water valve in the main body
Main body water valve (maybe it is a water valve lever)
The plunger, trigger and valve (lever) seemed to be working correctly, so I carefully re-attached the handle to the main body of the Bissell carpet cleaner and ensured that the handle plunger sat correctly on top of the valve (maybe it is a water valve lever)Β now when the clean water tank is attached to the bissell carpet cleaner, no water leaks and the handle trigger releases water as it should do.
So a disassemble and re-assemble seems to have fixed the water leak, probable due to a stuck water lever causing the water valve to leak water.
In a completely sane world, madness is the only freedom (J.G.Ballard).
