Is there a v2 for this particular model? How do you know the difference when buying?

not sure but I believe so for the TUF-AX5400 but as ASUS have now removed all references to the 386’s builds for that model – both v1 and v2 would be supported by the new 388 builds.

Over at Github, is a mention to V1 and V2 for the TUF-AX5400 which references RT-AX58U for v1

Details of hardware version is usually on the routers label and sometimes on box for version 2 and can also detail H/W version A or B etc. etc.

Pic below of my DSL-AX82U with H/W version A
