Kirin 990 flagship mobile processor with a built-in 5G modem will be coming to India soon, which also means the Mate 30 series launch in India looks imminent.
Kirin 990 5G SoC will be available in India soon.
This suggests the company will soon announce the Mate 30 series in India.
Kirin 990 comes with a built-in 5G modem and is based on a 7nm EUV process
Huawei has announced that its newly launched Kirin 990 flagship mobile processor with a built-in 5G modem will be coming to India soon. Without offering an exact date, the Chinese tech giant said that the 5G version of Kirin 990 will be available in India with upcoming smartphones. This also suggests that the company will soon launch the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro in the country as these are the first flagships to be powered by the Kirin 990 SoC.
Huawei first announced the Kirin 990 5G processor at IFA 2019 earlier this month. This is the company’s first mobile processor with an integrated 5G modem. It is based on a 7nm EUV process that will also offer better power efficiency compared to processors with a separate 5G modem like the Kirin 980. Huawei says that its 5G modem can offer download speeds of up to 2.3Gbps and upload speeds of 1.25Gbps.
5G services are expected to begin in India in the second half of 2020, and smartphone manufacturers are ready to bring 5G-ready devices to the market by early next year. Companies like Realme, Nokia and Xiaomi have expressed their interest in launching affordable 5G phones for the masses. Huawei’s Kirin 990 will be seen on high-end phones like the Mate 30 Pro and next year’s P40 Pro, for example.
Considering the higher cost of 5G smartphones at the moment, it is possible that Huawei will launch both 5G and 4G versions of the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro in India. The Mate 30 series will go official in Munich, Germany on September 19, which is when we will know its prices as well. The company may also reveal when it plans to bring the Mate 30 series to India soon. Of course, that still leaves us wondering what kind of Android software the Mate 30 series will bring to India.
“As one of Huawei’s key markets, Customer-centric innovation is at the heart of everything we do in India. We have always believed in bringing the very best to our consumers by continuously focusing on innovation and making the experience better, every single time. The Kirin 990 is the very pinnacle of smartphone technology today and will leapfrog consumers into a new era of 5G,” said Tornado Pan, country manager (Huawei Brand), Consumer Business.
