Microsoft has quietly shut down the online metadata service that Windows Media Player uses to fetch CD album names, track lists, and cover art — which is why every CD now shows up as “Unknown Album” on Windows 10 and 11. This outage began shortly before Christmas and has been confirmed by independent testing and reporting.
