I had upgraded a while ago to Win11 on the 3770k system. It is still receiving patches and updates. If it stops receiving updates I will revert to Win10.

April 3, 2022 at 5:01 pm #18535I sold the Asus ROG strix 5800X PC for a small profit and bought a custom built PC from box.co.uk:
Specs:
Case: Phantek P500a
Processor: i7 12700k
Mboard: MSI Z690 Tomahawk DDR5
Ram: 32GB Kingston Fury 5600MHz
Cooler: Corsair H150i Elite Capellix
PSU: 850W Seasonic Focus GX
GPU: Kept my existing RTX 2070
Paid less than what I sold the AMD system for.
Only problem with box.co.uk is that they did not send any of the parts/accessories that were not used. Looks like it got lost somehow.

Did the ASUS ROG not live up to expectations or did you just get bored ;)

You have summed me up in one sentence. I got bored as I like tinkering with my PC. The ASUS ROG pre-built had a proprietary motherboard. Not much upgrade path with Zen 3. With LGA 1700 Raptor lake will be supported apparently plus it has DDR5 and PCIe 5.0.

April 3, 2022 at 5:45 pm #18542The MSI Z690 Tomahawk does sound interesting and I do like the MSI brand, good kit at a fair price.
And INTEL where it matters

April 3, 2022 at 5:55 pm #18545The Z690 Tomahawk motherboard is really good. Lots of headroom for overclocking. I am liking the MSI bios more than ASUS.

April 3, 2022 at 6:06 pm #18546Whats with the Corsair H150i Elite Capellix , is it for all that overclocking heat generation. ?
Huge piece of cooling equipment with smart RGB lights, must need its own PSU ;-)

April 3, 2022 at 6:11 pm #18547Yes, you need the Corsair H150i Elite Capellix to tame the i7 12700k. Plus it gives a lot of headroom to overclock the CPU in the future.
