Well I took a look at the AMD market place and given the budget of £1000, AMD comes in nicely with compromises on Graphics cards etc
Motherboard: GIGABYTE B550I Aorus Pro AX £170 Gigabyte X570 I AORUS PRO WIFI (AMD AM4) DDR4 X570 Chipset Mini-ITX Motherboard £210 CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Zen 3 CPU Base: 3.7GHz, Turbo: 4.6GHz – 6 Cores, 12 Threads £280 AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core 16-Thread AM4 Unlocked 100-100000063WOF £330 AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core 24-Thread AM4 Unlocked 100-100000061WOF £450 RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2X16GB) DDR4 3200Mhz £97 Graphics: MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB LP Graphics Card £219 Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER 6GB OC GAMING Graphics Card £450 Power Supply: Corsair SF Series, SF450, 450 Watt, £82 Corsair SF600 600W SFX £100 Drive: Crucial P2 1TB PCIe M.2 2280SS SSD £99 SanDisk Ultra 3D SSD 1TB £107 Samsung 870 EVO 1TB SATA £125 chassis: RAIJINTEK SFF – PAEAN MINI £89 In a completely sane world, madness is the only freedom (J.G.Ballard).

December 28, 2021 at 5:45 pm #16866So the choice is as follows, doesn’t included licenses / CPU heatsink, CD-rom etc, but given budget is a good compromise I believe

December 29, 2021 at 12:41 am #16867That is what I am finding, prices are way to high. Anything ASUS from a gaming perspective is good, shame about the hybrid HDD /SSD but a good purchase considering the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 is worth £700 + on its own . I doubt it will be in stock anytime soon

John Lewis said they will order new stock in mid Jan 22. If price is close to that I will buy. The NVMe SSD and HDD are separate.

‘The NVMe SSD and HDD are separate’, that is much better,

Great balanced spec in my opinion
It was tricky to get a semi good gaming system for around £1000, luckily I have a few old PC’s so can scavenge Ribbons, CD drives etc if my friend needs them.
AMD definitely provided better cost savings

January 26, 2022 at 5:38 pm #17399Just bought this system from Very. As I suspected the price went up substantially after coming back in stock. It is now £1,800 at John Lewis and for £1600 from Very.
Bonus was that I had £500 Very vouchers applied to the account so ended up paying £1,100.

January 26, 2022 at 6:16 pm #17400Very very nice looking rig, shame John Lewis is some £200 more than Very,
Case looks very sharp and only noticed a single fan on case, (excluding CPU and GPU) so will be interesting to see if temps are maintained etc.

January 27, 2022 at 9:01 pm #17429Got next day delivery and it got delivered in the morning.
There are actually 2 case fans. 1 x 120mm (I think that is the size) in the front and 1 x 80mm at the back.
On first start-up all the the fans are quite audible. After entering windows they are whisper quiet on idle.
Nearly damaged the front hot-swappable SSD trays. I never knew there are different sized SSD’s?
I had 2 SSD’s and the first one would not fit. Tried to jam it in and nearly damaged the SSD and the hot-swappable tray. It was near impossible to get the SSD back out. Had to use a pliers to remove.
I then tried the other SSD and it just fitted in perfectly. Lesson learnt……

January 28, 2022 at 9:41 pm #17467This is upgrade upgrade after 10 years. The last build was intel i7-3770k where I only upgraded GPU to RTX 2070.
The system has now been given to my son, still plenty fast enough for him coming from an AMD FX8370 and a GTX 1060.
