So our Beautiful Samsung American Style Fridge Freezer has finally decided that we no longer need ice and has from the sounds of it jammed.
Seems some Samsung Fridge Freezers have the option for Forced Defrost Mode, which when activated will defrost ice box in around 30 minutes and as the ice box has an in built heater loop (I believe) and the freezer coils will be defrosted also (if it needs to or not) etc. .
Note: Samsung American Style fridge freezers are known to suffer from the freezer coils being frozen and running the Forced Defrost Mode every few weeks, will keep the ice box working smoothly.
To activate this Forced Defrost Mode, go to the front panel and …
Press and hold the Freezer and Lighting buttons simultaneously for approximately 8 seconds, or until the display goes black.
then using the Lighting button tab through the options until you see Fd (Full Defrost) and then leave this to run for around 30 minutes.
During the Forced Defrost Mode, the Fridge Freezer makes a beeping noise

May 14, 2022 at 5:00 pm #19024So I had to run the Forced Defrost Mode twice and manually remove the last of the ice by hand.
Picture shows Ice compartment now Ice free and ready to be left running overnight making new ice.

August 26, 2022 at 8:36 pm #20642As a follow on, what I have noticed is that I have only had the freezer coils being frozen problem this year and that is since I activated the Energy Saver option on the Samsung Fridge Freezer ….
In May / June the ice dispenser stopped working on two occasions, after the second time I turned off the Energy Saver mode and ever since no more ice dispenser issues.
Interesting if nothing else.

August 27, 2022 at 9:18 am #20645Probably defrost falls victim to energy saver, because it needs power for heating. So it wont run automatically or in much larger intervalls too long for correct function.

August 27, 2022 at 10:05 am #20646I did read for the Samsung fridge freezers, Energy saver on some models will turn off the heater on the door to save energy as well as automatically turning off the circulation and exhaust fan when the compressor is off.
And as you say, Ice buildups can occur on the evaporator coils due to defrost heater which normally turns on several times throughout the day to melt away any frost, but due to Energy saver mode this happens less often.

August 27, 2022 at 10:42 am #20647Similarly to our dishwasher, in power save mode you will have to repair every 2 years (happy if you can do it on your own), no problems for >10 years in standard programs.

August 27, 2022 at 1:11 pm #20650Interesting, for my Samsung Fridge Freezer, I am going to try when I need dispensed ice in the summer months, I will turn off Energy saver button and in Winter when less ice is needed, I will turn on Energy saver and turn off ice dispenser (unless we are having a party or guests) and see what problems that may cause with fridge or main freezer unit.
I get bored easily

May 20, 2023 at 5:49 pm #24586Over the winter months, turning On Energy Saver and turning Off the Icemaker until needed (not very often) worked well and very little issues with ice build up etc.
So new year and summer again, this time Energy saver button is Off and Ice dispenser is On, only had one instance of Ice build up and jamming, after 5 weeks.
As we don’t use the ice dispenser often it seems problem is mainly when ice box is full and not used for extended periods of time (weeks).
As we are using more ice now, we are now trying the option with Energy saver button Off and just turning on the ice dispenser once a week (overnight) or when required, to fill the ice box and then turning it off again until the following week when ice is nearly depleted.
Hopefully by turning the ice dispenser On and Off when required, this may prove to use less electricity and keep the freezer coils clear of ice build up.

September 4, 2023 at 6:07 pm #26741So out of frustration I think I have finally fixed our Samsung American Style Fridge Freezer Ice compartment from not dispensing ice.
As a last resort, I added around June the ‘Samsung Ice Maker Y-Clip Kit’ and also took the opportunity to seal in the Ice compartment with food grade silicone sealant so that no moisture can gain access to the ice compartment.
Lots of Videos online showing how to fit the Samsung Ice Maker Y-Clip Kit and Seal in Ice box etc.
Ever since then the Ice dispenser has worked flawlessly.

April 25, 2024 at 5:38 am #31991Fix: How to Resolve Ice Build-Up in a Samsung Fridge Freezer
As a follow up, 10 months later and our Samsung American Style Fridge Freezer ice dispenser has worked without any issues.
Does seem for others reading this thread as to why there Samsung fridge / freezer ice box keeps building up ice and blocking the ice dispenser, the fix could be to utilise Samsung’s Y clip kit and to seal in the ice compartment itself with food grade silicon sealant.
