I am trying to connect some smart plugs running Tasmota 12.2.0 to my ASUS ZenWiFi AX (XT8).
The plug connects to my Plusnet router but fails to connect to my ASUS ZenWiFi mesh network.
The device successfully lists the available networks. The events in the logs below indicate a successful connection but the device says the connection fails and returns to prompt for a new wireless name and password.

I have downgraded security to allow WPA/WPA2-Personal. I have disabled 802.11ax / WiFi 6 mode. Smart Connect is on.
Does anyone have an idea what to test next?
Thanks Mark!

November 9, 2022 at 10:53 pm #21648I changed a Guest network to Router only on the web interface and it worked.
So the settings for the 2.4GHz guest network are:
- Authentication Method: WPA2/WPA3-Personal (WPA3 only does not work)
- Access Intranet: Enable
- Guest network on AIMesh: Router only

November 10, 2022 at 7:57 am #21653Welcome, As you have a Plusnet router and then using an ASUS XT8 – if the XT8 is joined to the Plusnet router and you are only using a single XT8 then this cannot be a full AiMeshed router solution but more like the XT8 is acting as an AP ?
WWW > Plusnet Router > XT8
Could you help clarify router set-up a little more ie. is Plusnet router wifi disabled or are you running an ethernet cable between the two devices

November 10, 2022 at 9:50 am #21655Thanks, The configuration used is
WWW > Plusnet Router (Wifi Disabled) > XT8 router > 2 x XT8 mesh nodes
Screen shots of the config attached. The main network has most of the connections with two devices connected to a 2.4GHz SSID for IoT devices that cause problems. The smartplug needed the Mesh disabled which is fine given the location/bandwidth of the devices that do not move.
The devices I bought were from here but there are plenty of other smart plugs using the same Tasmota software on UP111 hardware. It would be good if owners of smarrt devices didn’t have to debug this problem with the Asus devices.

November 10, 2022 at 10:19 am #21658Alas for some, ASUS routers can be complicated as they offer you many options, that’s why Netgear / TP-Link can be popular (more suited) for the average homeowner / user.
Thanks for clarity, is the Plusnet router in Bridge mode ?
The last good working firmware (stable) for the XT8 is Version 3.0.0.4.386.49873
Then for testing purposes, disable ‘SMART Connect’ and see if that helps ?

November 10, 2022 at 10:59 am #21659Thanks – There is no bridge mode on the Plusnet router that I can find.
Yes, ASUS has rich functionality (but is not as stable) that enables me to have a separate IoT network. I had problems with a WeatherFlow Tempest device needing a 2.4GHz network as it did not work on the main SSID and decided I needed a the capability to run a separate network.
I run the backhaul network over PowerLine due to the problems in the past running it on 5GHz-2.
As it now works on the latest firmware, I will leave it as it is. Working on WPA2 is acceptable.
Thanks for your feedback.

Apologies, I missed your much earlier response above – glad you are all sorted
