So have been seeing this online for a while now in that the PlayStation 5 are overheating under intense gameplay and then shutting down.
Heat problems with the PS5 is nothing new and one simple fix is to purchase something like the ‘SCRY Artic PlayStation 5 Cooler’ or similar which in effect adds additional fans to the front of the PS5 and increases cooling performance.

August 21, 2023 at 3:33 pm #26535I wonder how easy the PS5 is do disassemble and clean out dust and change thermal paste? I recently did it with a PS4 Pro which was a far more arduous job than it needed to be. It did restore it to brand new in terms of being silent again.
Compared to taking apart the Xbox Series X to clean out the difference is like night and day. The xbox is extremely user friendly to take apart.

August 21, 2023 at 8:05 pm #26537I believe the PS5 is less efficient in terms of air flow because it uses a larger heat sink to compensate.
PS5 implements an “omnidirectional” cooling arrangement where the Xbox uses a linear approach and air travels in a straight line through the system and out the top.
Generally, the Xbox is more modular and does use a vapor chamber, and because PS5 design is very involved, I think for PS5 access to CPU etc, is more involved.
The the PS5 uses liquid metal to pass heat from CPU to heatsink. Liquid metal is way more efficient than ordinary thermal paste but can be corrosive on luminum, copper, nickel, and solder.
The Xbox series X uses a more traditional thermal paste and is the one area I wish Microsoft would improve upon

August 23, 2023 at 8:10 pm #26584The Sony PlayStation 5 (PS5) shuts down when it overheats to prevent damage to its internal components.
