I am currently testing an option to enable regular forum members to more easily identify new ‘Topics and Posts’.

In essence this new option can be enabled via your Forum / My PROFILE section and allows you to add ‘unread’ and/or ‘read’ icons to topics and forums which allow forum members (not guests) users to quickly find new content.

Topics or Post that have not been Read

Topics or Post that have been Read

By default and whilst I am testing, this option has to be enabled by each Forum members, but if this option proves to be stable and useful, I can enable this option for all forum members by default.

If you wish to also help test this new icon based Read / Not Read system, then please do enable this option for yourself from your ‘My Profile’ top menu option and any constructive feedback most welcomed @Grisu

Note; there is a lot of cache type changes to enable, so once you do read a Topic or Post, it may take a minute to update the icon and whether this impacting Forum website response and resources I will have to monitor closely.

Whats the difference to recently used “topic freshness”?

    I think I didn’t get it.
What has this to do with password and whats an application password?

Same idea, using icons at the beginning of Forums and Topics identifies areas you have already looked at and areas you have not via the Icon colours.

This option is configured to your own Login Profiles,  it remembers what you have viewed when you was last on the forum and helps you visually identify new Topics and Posts you have not viewed yet.

I have removed Security related Detail note.

As an update, it was suggested that maybe only new Unread Topics and Posts need to be highlighted, as Read posts Icon takes up to much visual space and can be annoying.

So I have now changed the forum so that only new Threads and Posts (unread) are highlighed by a ‘NEW’ icon.

Personally, I prefer this new way, as more visual and easier on the eye to understand etc. and feedback as always most welcomed.

ok so for me – every single topic shows New next to it, even though some have last post in 2022, I presume that’s because I haven’t gone in and “read” every single post? Would there be a option to say only show New if post is greater than September 2023 or something?

Just ignore them as they will go down themselves with every new topic.

@Grisu is correct, every time you visit a Forum or Topic, the ‘New’ icon will remove itself once visited, there is also the option to ‘Mark All Topics as Read’ button which makes the task easier.

anyway to get that “Mark all topics as read” on the main Forum page or have the New button disappear after a certain time? As I typically don’t read every forum, only go to the ones I’m interested in.

As an example, “Android Tablets” I never go into as I don’t have one, last post was in 2022 and shows as New but isn’t New :)

The NEW icon refers to ‘NEW’ unread post or posts by yourself, not ‘NEW’ as in age of post – this option can be disabled in your profile if it is proving inconvenient.

The idea was that this will help regular forum members identify posts they have not yet read or marked at read

This option is ‘disabled’ by default and is enable by Forum member if they feel it is of value.

So after nearly 10 days, I think that the ‘new Topics and Posts’. option probable creates more problems than it helps and does not really help with navigation through the forum with regards to new unread posts etc…

Interesting exercise but unless anybody has any objections, I plan to disable this option Tomorrow

No problems from a technical viewpoint, it is just understanding if Forum members are benefiting and enjoying the  new Topics and Posts option .

But nice to hear you are liking this new feature
