Currently sanding down our Under-Stairs cupboard door frame which is painted with a white gloss paint and has seen better days.
I thought I would share that White Spirit works well as a Deglosser to help remove the current paints gloss before applying new gloss paint (water based).
I lightly sand the previous painted frames with a light sand paper to remove the shine, then wipe over with a pre soaked White Spirit cloth and then allow to dry a few hours before final wipe over with a damp cloth, just to remove any residual from the evaporated White Spirit.
This usually ensures the new gloss paint has a decent chance of bonding to the old gloss paint and I always have a bottle of white spirit for such jobs
