Microsoft will officially end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. After that date, your PC will no longer receive regular security updatesโunless you enroll in the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program.
What is ESU?
ESU provides critical and important security updates for Windows 10 after the end of support. It does not include new features, general bug fixes, or full technical supportโitโs purely a security safety net.
Who Can Get It?
Personal users (home PCs): ESU runs from Oct 15, 2025 โ Oct 13, 2026.
Businesses & schools: Can buy ESU for up to three years beyond end of support.
Your PC must be running Windows 10 version 22H2 to qualify.
Cost & Free Options
Personal PCs: Around $30 USD (about ยฃ25) for one year.
Free alternatives for individuals:
Link your PC to a Microsoft account and back up settings with Windows Backup.
Or redeem 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points.
Businesses / organisations: ESU starts at $61 per device for Year 1, and the cost doubles each following year.
Important Notes
You must use a Microsoft account to enroll (local accounts alone wonโt work).
Enrollment will be handled through a wizard in Windows Update settings.
This is a temporary bridge, not a long-term solutionโMicrosoft recommends upgrading to Windows 11 or moving to supported devices.
