Those were the days 
The DSL-AC88U supports G.fast but if you are planning to utilise the WAN port then as far as I recall the DSL-AC88U had a modem clicking noise which was later fixed in a firmware update (I cannot recall which version)
Also AiProtect had trouble handling speeds above 100Mbps and I seem to recall issues around DHCP, but generally using the DSL-AC88U as a router only should work well
