To help explain, once you have determined your defragmentation ping tests (above) , you then have to allow for whether you are using PPPoE or PPPoA. ping google.com -f -l 1492 = Defrag ping google.com -f -l 1464 = no defrag MTU = 1464 + 28 (IP/ICMP headers) etc. this = 1492 (PPPoE) βWhat some people do not realise is that PPPoE actually adds another 8 header bytes hidden down at the data-link and physical layers and the OS isnβt aware of it header 1492 + 8 = 500β
