Also reading online, does seem that there was an initial requirement that the vehicle had to be SORN and then this automatically cancels you outstanding TAX levy, then you simply renew for 12 months @ ÂŁ0.
A couple of EV owners which did have their Car Tax (VED) due to finish later in the year, have already renewed for another 12 months @ ÂŁ0 but the .gov.uk site warned that VED was not due for renewal, but they where allowed to continue.
This I believe applies to both EV’s and Low Emission vehicles whom pay ÂŁ0, all you need is your vehicles Reg and V5 11 digit number.
